The Land Down Under continues its battle against unauthorized internet gambling platforms, adding another five to its list of prohibited sites. This action brings the total count of websites blocked by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) to a remarkable 835 since the organization initiated its campaign.

The most recent platforms to be restricted – Viperspin, Just Casino, Betandplay, Play Fina, and Comic Play Casino – were determined to be in breach of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001. The ACMA has been diligently pursuing these unlawful providers, resulting in the withdrawal of 215 of them from the Australian market since 2017.

These website-blocking actions are just one element of a broader plan to safeguard Australians from the risks of illicit online wagering. The ACMA holds the power to block any site that provides forbidden interactive gambling services to Australians, encompassing internet-based casinos, slot machines, and unlicensed sports wagering. Websites promoting these unlawful services are also subject to blocking.

This development emerges amidst a wave of gambling-related events in Australia. Stake.com, a well-known platform, is engaged in a legal dispute, while the government has introduced BetStop, a self-exclusion registry for individuals grappling with gambling dependence. Furthermore, the Australian Taxation Office reimbursed Tabcorp a substantial amount of A$83 million, and Crown Resorts encountered a significant A$450 million penalty from AUSTRAC. Victoria is also preparing to implement more stringent gambling regulations by 2024.
