The Danish gaming sector witnessed a minor contraction in April 2023, as overall earnings amounted to DKK 595 million ($86.4 million), representing a 6.9% reduction compared to the corresponding month in the previous year.
This downturn was evident across a majority of gaming segments, with wagering experiencing the most significant impact. Income from wagering plunged by 20.9% year-on-year, reaching DKK 195 million, even though mobile wagering maintains its dominance in the market, constituting around 63% of all wagers made.
Physical casinos also recorded a marginal revenue decline of 1.6%, totaling DKK 31 million, averaging slightly below DKK 1 million in daily earnings. Likewise, gaming machines faced a 7.3% drop, generating DKK 96 million for the month.
Contrasting this trend, internet-based casinos thrived in April, achieving a 6.04% surge in revenue, reaching DKK 273 million, solidifying their standing as the highest-performing segment within the Danish gaming market. This expansion is particularly notable given that internet-based casinos generated DKK 257 million in the same timeframe last year. Among online casinos, slot games prevailed, contributing to approximately 76.3% of total revenue, followed by roulette at 6.7%.
In the previous month, Denmark experienced a significant increase in gambling earnings, accumulating an impressive 587 million kroner. This represents a substantial 18% rise in comparison to the corresponding period the year before! It’s no shock that internet-based casinos remain the leading sector, attracting the majority of those wagered kroner.
