UK betting companies are toasting a highly profitable Grand National, pulling in an estimated £75 million in earnings over the race weekend.

Bettors wagered over £35 million on the Grand National itself, but the overall betting volume across the three-day Aintree festival meant bookies pocketed more than £16 per client. This translates to a healthy average gain of £2.84 per client for Saturday’s Grand National.

Intriguingly, Saturday saw the largest single-day earnings, yet Friday’s Ladies Day generated the highest average profit per client at £11, in contrast to £2.33 on Thursday.

The figures also show that bettors placed an average of 7.5 wagers on Thursday, 10.3 wagers on Friday, and 7.9 wagers on Saturday, with the average bet amount remaining around £9.10 to £9.20.

This development follows a similarly triumphant Cheltenham Festival for bookmakers, where they relished a £3.21 profit per client, based on information from bettingexpert.com.
